Dog Search Websites

  • PetFinder -- an online, searchable database of animals that need homes. It is also a directory of over 7,000 animal shelters and adoption organizations across the USA, Canada and Mexico. Organizations maintain their own home pages and available pet database.
  • Virtual Pet Adoptions -- a non-profit organization and just one part of a rescue and adoption network that includes the East Bay SPCA, Pet Food Express and PetFoodExpress.com and several other shelters, humane and rescue organizations throughout the Bay Area.
  • Pet Harbor -- a non-profit website to help connect the general public to the large amounts of data kept by the animal-care industry, which includes your local animal shelter, SPCA, Humane Society, county or city Animal Control, and many private animal-welfare organizations

Dog Groups

  • California Dog Owners Group -- CalDOG helps people start and save dog parks and other off-leash space. They actively support responsible dog ownership with the focus on responsible and appropriate behavior of dogs in public.
  • Friends of César Chávez Park -- FCCP is a grassroots organization that successfully lobbied the City of Berkeley to establish the off-leash area. FCCP works together with the City Parks and Waterfront staff to assess the condition of the area, and ensure its success. Additionally, FCCP negotiates and implements improvements, organizes special events and volunteer clean-ups, conducts outreach efforts to likeminded groups, and maintains liaisons with the City.
  • Oakland Dog Owners Group -- ODOG works in partnership with the city of Oakland and her communities to create enclosed, off leash areas where people can play with their dogs.
  • Point Isabel Dog Owners -- PIDO is an organization which works with the park district to maintain this area as an off-leash dog area and to inform visitors of their responsibilities as users of this park to obey park rules.
  • San Francisco Dog Owners Group -- founded in 1976, but was dormant for many years. SFDOG was revived in 1997 when GGNRA closed many miles of trails in Ocean Beach, the Presidio, Lands End, Marin Headlands, and other areas of the park to off-leash dog walkers.
  • Walnut Creek Dog Owners Group -- WCDog advocates responsible dog ownership, supports off-leash dog exercise, and serves as a local educational resource to the community. WCDog works with the City of Walnut Creek's Park, Recreation and Open Space Commission in the development of off-leash dog exercise areas. By joining the group, you are showing support for off-leash dog park locations within Walnut Creek, California.
