The Tallulah Fund
The Tallulah Fund for special needs dogs was established in August of 2002 and was named in memory of a Smiley Dog named Tallulah, who was incredibly shy of the world around her.
It is our hope that, through this fund, we can help save the lives of many special needs dogs. Please join our efforts to help some deserving dogs by opening your hearts and contributing to this Fund.
This fund has been used to cover the extra costs for special needs dogs. For example, Ford was actually in the euthanasia room when a frantic volunteer called us. No one wanted the deed of putting him to sleep, so they were desperately trying one last time to find a rescue that could take him. Ford, an English Bulldog mix, had a badly deformed right front leg (see the picture below). He could only hobble for short distances before he tired. At the vet for x-rays, he quickly won over the hearts of all the staff. Ford loved everyone. X-rays showed that one of the bones in Ford's leg had stopped growing, while the other one continued to grow at a normal pace. This caused a "bend" in his leg and his inability to walk. In a different breed of dog we could have amputated his leg, but with Ford's body shape it was unlikely that he would have been better off without his leg. The procedure to fix Ford's leg was elaborate and costly. We were lucky that out vet, Dr. Evans, reduced the cost by 33%. It was the Tullalah fund that stepped in to cover the remaining cost and we were able to do Ford's surgery. Today, Ford has been adopted, and renamed Benny. As you can see by the after picture below, he is a happy dog. Benny loves to go running and is having a lot of fun being mobile!
